Yellow Pine Floors After 1 Coat of Tung Oil (and Citrus Blend)

Updated: Dec 20, 2019

Yellow Pine Floors with One Coat of Tung Oil

We're surprised at what a difference one coat of Tung Oil (no color or tint added) makes to unfinished yellow pine floors. The directions say that ideally, two additional coats should be applied later today and then a couple of more coats should be applied tomorrow; the oil needs to keep being applied until it no longer soaks into the wood. Each time an application is made, the excess needs to be wiped off after 40 minutes or so.

Even though we'll be able to walk on the floors / put rugs down and furniture in place (best to wait 5-7 days for furniture), it will take 30 days for the floors to fully cure.

There is some maintenance with Tung Oil in that it will need to be reapplied every 3-10 years as needed (although not as many coats will be required down the road).

Side note: Ed will be treating himself to a most well deserved steak dinner tonight; he will be coming home tomorrow after he picks our son Henry and his roommate up from their school for Thanksgiving break. (I had gone up with our dog Maxie for the weekend; but, Ed did not want us around when he got to the point of sanding and applying the finish to the flooring... it was hard, but we returned home and have been experiencing his progress through pictures and phone calls... we look forward to his return and to seeing Henry again; Henry was always Maxie's favorite!)
