Labor Day weekend provided a good opportunity to spend an extra day at the property and work on the house. We reached a big milestone - I was able to finish painting the common rooms of the first floor. The second floor was completed a few weeks ago. All that is left is the hall between the first and second floor and the master bedroom on the first floor.
Maggie is going for a white-on-white look. Unfortunately, all of our outlets and switches were almond-color. Because most of the outlets had reversed hot and neutral conductors, I used this as an opportunity to replace the old almond-colored outlets and switches with white ones. I also corrected the wiring and confirmed every outlet was grounded. I had taken all of the old almond-colored switchplates off to paint, so it was a perfect time to replace them with white ones.
My electrical work continued with a couple of light fixtures. We had an electrician add a couple of ceiling junction boxes for light fixtures. Maggie neglected to let the electrician or I know that she wanted to hang a ceiling fan at one of the new boxes. I removed the new box and replaced it with a newer ceiling fan-rated box and support. If one ignores the absence of a finished floor (or furniture, or kitchen cabinets), it looks like we are making progress.
