Red Bud "Tree" Survives it's Second Summer

Baby Red Bud Tree

Two summers ago, I dug up a little tiny baby red bud plant from our Milwaukee area home to bring to the property. Our Milwaukee neighbor has a beautiful red bud tree that somehow always seems to send up baby plants in our herb garden every year.

I thought a red bud tree in our front yard would be nice for a couple of reasons. One is that they are just plain pretty and are one of the first trees to blossom in the spring. The second reason is that "they" say you should look for morel mushrooms when the red bud tree starts to bloom. Since we do have some (not many) morel mushrooms in our back woods, I thought it would come in handy in terms of providing a clue as to when to start foraging.

Fingers crossed that the little tree is now established enough to survive into the future. I've heard tell that this winter is going to be a doozy, so time will tell...
