Painted First Window White (with many more to follow)

Updated: Sep 20, 2019

This weekend, while Ed was assembling kitchen cabinets, I primed and painted the first window.

This is going to be my job going forward; priming and painting all of the windows white. It’s my job for a couple of reasons: I’m the one who really wants the white on white cottage look; and, it’s a job that I can do.

The process involved sanding the wood trim, taping off the wall from the window frames to avoid ruining Ed’s freshly painted walls, removing the window screens (I painted the whole window white in addition to just the trim), two coats of Kilz premium interior / exterior stain-blocking primer (with about 1.5 hours of dry time in-between) followed by 2 coats of Behr high-gloss paint. Given that I was able to accomplish the paint job over the course of a Saturday, I should be able to knock out one window per weekend (I may need to break some of the larger windows down into sections).

The resulting look really is that country farmhouse / cottage look I was going for. Ed has said that he likes it too (although, if he could have it his way, he probably would have left the dark wood window trim as it was).
