Maybe we're just too new to growing pumpkins, but having an orange pumpkin (3 actually) on August 1st in Wisconsin seems way too early. Likely these pumpkins will have to be used as chicken food prior to fall and prior to Halloween.
Not sure if it's because our summer has been hotter and dryer than usual or if it's because these orange pumpkins self-seeded from last year's remnants and therefore are not true to type (assuming they were hybrid in the first place which I really do not know...I'm not a good record keeper of what I plant where...).
Either way, I'm glad they made it - it makes me happy every time I see them!
