While at the more recent town meeting (which I attend from time to time just to acquaint myself with the area, our town, and how things work), I asked (after the meeting had wrapped up) where I might find a used stock tank for the purpose of acting as a raised bed garden.
It turns out that our town clerk farms and that she and her husband had a large tank that no longer holds water (perfect for raised bed gardening!). After texting back and forth to determine a good time, we stopped by her place this afternoon with our pickup truck, accepted her very fair sales price ($40), loaded it up and headed home.
It turns out that she'll have another used stock tank available come spring time (we've got dibs) and that she'll be able to sell us composted barn clean out at that time as well (by the trailer load). This will work out wonderfully as she lives very close (compared to where we traveled to get our last load of "manure".
I'd been looking for used stock tanks for quite some time (ever since early spring) and had not been able to find anything. We're so blessed and lucky that things just sort of fell into place in this regard.
Now we just need to decide what we're going to plant in the "raised bed"; although, Ed says that it's up to me. I'm thinking greens (ex: lettuces, kales, spinaches, etc. in one half and something still to be determined in the other half (maybe beets? carrots?...).
