My neighbor gave me some tomatoes today and I'm looking forward to making tomato sandwiches as my main sustenance for the next week or so.
I included a quart sized mason jar in the picture's background and the smaller "regular" sized tomato grown by us in the front as perspective. The orange tomato on the left is a very good sized tomato; however, the large red tomato on the right is the largest I've ever seen. It's a 3.25 pounder. We've grown big Beefsteak and big Cherokee Purple tomatoes, but her tomatoes took the cake in terms of size (which she attributed to heavy pruning of the tomato plant itself).
My neighbor said that the orange tomatoes are her family's absolute favorite tomato...She had a whole big table full of super large tomatoes (big red ones and big orange ones) and she let me take whatever I wanted. I picked a total of three. I'm hoping to save some seeds from both the orange and the red in addition for using them in the next several days in my aforementioned tomato sandwiches. Yum.
