Making Croutons Out of Old Homemade Sour Dough Bread

Homemade Croutons in the Oven

I made a loaf of sour dough bread earlier in the week. While the bread is always wonderful fresh, the older it gets, the harder it is to use. Because we never let food go to waste, I decided to make croutons out of the older / uneaten bread.

I cubed the bread, added salt, pepper, garlic powder, a little butter, olive oil, and a little lemon infused olive oil. I'm letting the croutons bake at 320 degrees Fahrenheit and will take them out once they're dried and a little crispy. I was going to make a cream sauce to go over them and eat them for dinner that way; however, Ed suggested that I make pumpkin or winter squash soup and use them as a topping to the soup. Excellent idea! That's what I'm going to do...
