Lunch at Turbo's

This winter, we stumbled across a series of YouTube videos posted by Richland County Tourism, dubbed "The Richland County Food Trail". Each video featured a visit to a local eatery in the county. One that stuck out to us was a visit to Turbo's in Hub City. Located about 15 miles north of Richland Center, we had not found time for a visit until this weekend.

Driving south on Highway 80 from Hillsboro, we first passed a restaurant with a 'for sale' sign. We were worried for a moment, as Maggie and I have a history of trying to go to restaurants and stores that have gone out of business or happen to be closed the one day we try to visit. Fortunately, we saw the sign for Turbo's further down the road. There were a fair number of cars in the parking lot, always a good sign.

A typical local tavern, we found it bright and inviting. The Brewers were on, and there was a mix of patrons at the bar and at tables eating. Turbo's is known for its burgers, and is the "Home of the Hashburger". Maggie ordered a bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. I usually order a mushroom and swiss burger, but how could I pass up a hashburger?

Each burger was a fresh, half-pounder. Maggie's onion rings were crisp and nicely caramelized. It was fortunate that I had not ordered the house-cut french fries as the hashburger filled the plate. I had to eat some of the hash first so I could find the burger. Both the hash and the burger were delicious. Half the burger and most of Maggie's onion rings came home with us for a later snack. Turbo's was well worth the trip.
