July Harvest

With all the rain this summer, the garden has become its usual unkempt self. Weeding is still difficult, but the vegetables are starting to turn the tide on the weeds. We have all of the garlic and most of the onions picked and curing in the screen porch.

We have picked several bags of peas for fresh eating and freezing. The 'Early Snowball Y' cauliflower has yielded several nice heads. The peppers and tomatoes have struggled, but we have picked a few of each. The lettuce has faded, but it provided several weeks of salads for my work lunches. The cabbage has done really well. So far we have made coleslaw, cabbage curry, volcano chicken, sour kraut, and Vietnamese chicken salad. Next up is Mu Shu Pork. Henny commented that he has eaten more cabbage this year than he has his entire life. Maggie has also harvested some sumac for tea, and beets are also ready. Our harvest basket makes for a nice photo.
