Getting Ready for Baby Chicks

Last weekend we made a trip to Tractor Supply to see if we could find a better alternative to the dog crate we previously used to house our baby chicks.
The baby chicks aren't expected to arrive until mid-May; but, we ordered 16 egg laying chicks in total this year (compared to the 12 we ordered a couple of years ago). The dog crate we used then was at its limit with 12 chicks.
We measured the dog crate prior to our Tractor Supply visit and brought the measuring tape with us as we looked around Tractory Supply. We found the above 110 gallon stock tank for $89. The tank is twice the floor size of the dog crate and its taller as well.
Come the end of April, I'll be outfitting the new tank in preparation of the baby chicks. In the meantime, Ed will be making a lid out of hardware cloth. We intend to use the tank not only for the egg layers but for the meat chicks and any baby ducks or baby turkeys as well.
