Fox vs. Coyote

Updated: Nov 20, 2019

Fox vs. Coyote – sounds simple enough.

We captured the attached picture from our trail cam; it's not a great picture and you have to look closely; but, I called it a coyote and Ed called it as a fox (he didn’t think coyote had black tipped tails).

After looking at images on Google by way of comparison, Ed has come around to thinking it’s a coyote while I on the other hand have opened-up to the idea of its being a fox (grey fox in particular).

Trail Cam - Fox Vs. Coyote

Apparently, coyote has a very dog-like face and overall is taller and larger. One of the most distinguishing attributes of the coyote when compared to a fox is its size; it has much longer limbs, ears and snout, making it larger and taller than either of the more common red fox or grey fox types.
