Today, we decided to grill the vacuum sealed boneless NY Strip steaks I had purchased from our local Kwik Trip for $5.99 each. I had thought that they were a really good deal in these times, so I went for it. They've been in the freezer for about a month, just waiting for the right time. Today was the day.
With all the abundance from our garden, we made our sides. Mushrooms from our middle woods were sauteed with some onions and garlic. I made a cucumber salad because we're "knee high" in cucumbers. I lightly sauteed today's picking of snow peas and a few straggler beans that were left over from my morning canning session of our first garden beans. As I type this, I realize that the one side that wasn't from the garden was a small bit of rice I made from a packet I purchased at the local Amish bent and dent store for ten cents or some such amount (I'm sure it was past it's expiration date when I purchased it, but it tasted just fine and we're still living to tell about it... )
We ran a few errands and then came back for a small piece of rhubarb pie that Ed bought while he was erranding earlier in the day. There's a local Amish bakery that he loves to get hand pies from. Today, he opted for a traditional pie instead (albeit a small one).
Dinner and desert couldn't have been better - a true treat all of it!
