Beer Break

Can of Riverside Radler Grapefruit Hefe Beer by Potosi Brewing; Rehab Break

Thanks to Leinenkugel’s “Summer Shandy”, a number of microbrewers have taken a break from their race to produce the hoppiest beer possible to create a seasonal citrus-based beer. This has been great news for me, as I hate bitter, and take a hard pass on all of the IPAs, double IPAs, and other over-hopped brews saturating the market. I have even started to take a pass on microbrew beers in favor of hard ciders, which is sad as we are living in the golden age of beer.

I came across Potosi’s ‘Riverside Radler’ at the Kickapoo Exchange Natural Foods Co-op. It is a Hefeweizen base, which is one of my favorites, with grapefruit. A shout-out to the co-op, as they have a great selection of local beers, ciders, and wines. Best of all, you can break up six-packs and buy a single 12-ounce beer or cider. A great way to try something new without making a big investment.

I drank a Riverside Radler after a long day of drywall taping and mudding, and was immediately won over by how refreshing it was. I think it is a good combination of sweet and tart, especially on a hot summer day. I went back to the co-op the following weekend to stock up, as it proved difficult to find at other locations. Potosi also makes a Tangerine ...IPA. Not sure if I will be trying that one, unless I can buy a single can at the co-op to take for a test spin.
